Bunbury computer service is shutting down in the wake of an investigation into alleged hacking.
Bunbury PC services said the investigation was triggered by an allegation that they had received “hacked data”.
The internet provider said it would take a range of actions to restore service, including: shutting down services temporarily or permanently.
Brunswick PC said it had received a report of the hack from a customer in the NSW town of Bunbury on December 12.
The report, which was passed to Bunbury PC, said a customer had used an application to delete or remove files.
“We can confirm that a Bunbury customer has experienced a data breach and is in the process of reporting the breach to the Bunbury Police,” Bunbury’s CEO Simon O’Brien said.
The Bunbury man, who spoke to News24 on condition of anonymity, said he had “a very low” internet connection and his service had been cut off for almost three days.
“It’s been a long time coming and I’ve had to wait on a long haul of support to get through to a point where I’m able to start getting back online,” he said.
“My internet connection has been disconnected for the past three days and I don’t know what’s going to happen with my service.”
I’m very concerned.
“The Bunburys chief executive said it was important to recognise there was a risk of a data compromise and the services should be switched off.”
The security of the Bunburies internet infrastructure is of paramount importance and our company takes the issue very seriously,” Mr O’Brien said.
Burgess’ office, which has a team of more than 20 security experts, said the Bunhams data breach was not the first time data has been stolen.”
What we’ve heard over the past week or so is that a few other businesses have had data breaches as well, but this is not one of them,” Burgess’ deputy director David O’Connor said.
Mr O’Hagan said the data breach appeared to be a “massive data breach”.”
It is very important to point out this is a data breaches that we’re aware of, it’s not a random data breach,” he told the ABC.”
Bunburys has a dedicated team of people in every region in New South Wales and they’re doing everything they can to investigate this and get to the bottom of it.
